Steamboat Prow

This is a great climb to the area above Camp Schurman. Three of my comrads in boots from Medic One (Sylvia, Rodger and Kevin) and myself did this trip in about 8 hours round trip from White River Campground. From Glacier Basin continue up the valley to the foot of the Inter Glacier (you're there when it gets steep) and ascend the Inter Glacier on a bearing of 220 degrees (TN). Some crevasses were encountered but were easily negociated, but the indication I got was that more will be opening up soon. The view from the top of the prow includes a great view of Little Tahoma's North Face, and of course Mt. Rainier (great vantage point to see the condition of the Emmons Glacier route). On a clear day, you can see north to Baker and Glacier Peaks.
