Tyee Peak (6030'), Mt. Rainier N.P.

This is a nice hike in a quiet corner of Mt. Rainier National Park. Take the Wonderland Trail from Ipsut Campground for two miles to the junction with the Northern Loop Trail. Take the Northern Loop Trail and follow the signs toward "Windy Gap". Snow made the trail somewhat difficult to follow after about 5000' and was lost completely near the Yellowstone Cliffs (5500'), but from there the route was fairly obvious. Traverse around the base of the cliffs to a gap, then ascend the ridge to the summit (or take the more direct snow covered slopes). Despite the poor visability we encountered, it was obvious that this is an area deserving further attention and that Tyee peak is a good vantage point from which to observe it..
